As a REALTOR® helping people buy, sell, and invest in Oregon communities for over 22 years, I do not believe a tax on vacant properties is the right approach for Astoria.
The argument that homeowners residing in Astoria under 182 days do not contribute to our community is simply false. These neighbors pay full property taxes supporting essential services like roads, schools, and public safety. They hire local contractors year-round and place significantly less strain on local infrastructure.
While I understand the urgent need for housing affordability, Measure 4-247 is the wrong solution and will not create new or affordable housing stock. We need real, effective community solutions.
I encourage a NO vote on Measure 4-247.
