Government overreach retroactively dictating how & when to use your private property.
- If you’re not in your principal residence 183 days or more, you pay $3k year one, $6k year two. Relatives do not count.
- If RENTERS are not in their property at least 183 days, they (or you) you pay $3k year one, $6k year two.
Large Legal Bills
This can be expected to be tied up in expensive and lengthy litigation, as has occurred in every place this has been tried. Astoria and its citizens need money for infrastructure, low income housing construction, school lunches, senior housing.
Let’s not spend that money on lawyers!
Invasion of privacy
Invasion of privacy – equires paper reporting to city by all property owners, data unsecured, possible FOIA release of where YOU’RE living & when. Potentially exposes properties & owners to theft and squatting.
– Creates division in our community and panders to class envy and misperceptions about our neighbors. Neighbors reporting on neighbors?
– Travel for Work? Pay $3,000-$6,000 every year
No exceptions for traveling professionals (Maritime, Medical, Airline, Trades). Hurts our maritime professionals who spend tine away from their principal residence.
– City must bear initial program costs (salary, admin, overhead, LEGAL) – our small town cannot afford it! Anyone know how much this would cost? The proponents of this bill cannot and will not state projected costs. Astoria pays upfront costs. Berkeley CA allocated $332k to for program implementation – taxes collected from the program = $404k.
Every Resident Files – Every Year
You live here more than 183 days? Great. Fill out the form – and if you’re wrong or your declaration is in doubt, you may pay double.
– Live in Astoria for less than 183 days? You’re a burden on the city & not welcome here.
- States residents under 183 days “do not contribute to community” & impose “community-wide costs.”
Per the champions of this program, you have three choices:
“RENT IT / SELL IT / PAY THE TAX“
